About Greyhound Bus Co.

Greyhound is a venerable name in the history of American transportation.  With hundreds of terminals around the country, and a large fleet of buses to service them, Greyhound buses are widely celebrated in American literature and media.  Greyhound remains one of the quickest, most economical and least stressful ways to travel from city to city.

Their Need.

Greyhound's existing structure in downtown Pittsburgh was nearing the end of its functional life.  Greyhound wanted to replace it with a temporary facility, allowing them to continue serving their Pittsburgh-area customers while a new, larger facility was constructed.  The building, however, would need to be large enough to support the volume of customers that Greyhound draws, offer ample security and endure the stress of hundreds of travelers who would pass through the building daily.  Time was also of the essence.  As a company whose major selling point is convenience and the alleviation of stress that plagues travel, downtime was simply not an option.

Our Solution.

Greyhound chose to partner with Williams-Scotsman and Whitley Manufacturing to construct the 11,000 square foot facility (composed of 16 prefabricated sections, or modules).  The facility features all the convenient features that Greyhound passengers have come to expect.  The modular facility incorporated a food service area, durable ceramic lavatories, baggage storage areas, administrative and security office space; all of it designed to withstand the rigors of high traffic while minimizing costly and time consuming maintenance.  The project was completed in only 5 months.  Security and sprinkler systems were installed at the site for further protection.  The Whitley "clear span" building design allowed a wide-open grand hall complemented and daylighted by a commercial glass wall composing the front of the terminal.
