About Sinai Hospital.
Located in Baltimore, Sinai Hospital provides a broad arry of high quality, cost effective health and related services to the people of Greater Baltimore. Sinai Hospital was founded in 1866 as the Hebrew Hospital and Asylum, and has evolved into a Jewish-sponsored health care organization, providing care for all people. Central to its role is the provision of undergraduate and graduate medical education, as well as offering community outreach programs.
Their Need.
Sinai administrators were under time and cost pressures. A state government grant had been won to provide increased ambulatory psychiatric care in the Baltimore area, but the grant had both a cost cap and a completion deadline. Additionally, there were engineering problems that had to be overcome. Wear and tear would be significant. Some 700-800 people per day could be expected to visit the treatment center. There were questions of security, as well. Also, the records area had to be located on the second floor, presenting a challenge for the weight-load engineering.
Our Solution.
A conventional site-builder had submitted a bid price that vastly exceeded the grant limit, and the project's deadline was looming. Sinai had recently purchased a small modular complex for temporary use and were impressed with the quality of the building and the accelerated timeline for completion. The hopital requested a bid on the design package, and was pleased to see that Whitley Manufacturing's modular construction system could meet their budget and be completed within the time span alloted by the grant.
