The Anoka Hennepin School District needed a cost-effective way to consolidate schools while maintaining a high-quality learning environment. Parents were concerned about a "typical" modular building impacting property values. In response, the project architect (ATS&R) developed a design featuring site-installed brick and accenting horizontal lap siding which would compliment the existing school and surrounding properties. The building needed to be delivered on a very accelerated 2.5 month schedule for full completion. The district was a repeat customer of Innovative Modular Solutions and WM and trusted us to undertake the challenge.
The solution developed by the project team and architect combined a remodel of an existing elementary school with a new construction modular building to create the magnet school for the arts. The modular facility contains specialty music classrooms, technology rooms, and restrooms. The interior features painted gypsum walls, suspended ceilings, tiled floors, and a sprinkler system.
Sustainable features include high-efficiency natural gas rooftop HVAC units. These were selected to improve the exterior aesthetic of the building rather than use wall-mounted units. Classrooms were all outfitted with CO2 sensors and programmable thermostats. This insures quiet, comfortable, and consistent airflow and quality, while allowing the district to reduce operating costs while the buildings are not in use.
